The AIRE Centre invites you to the webinar “In the shadows: Prosecution of gender-based violence in healthcare”. Through the analysis of real-life cases and addresses from experts, this webinar aims to empower legal professionals and other relevant stakeholders to better understand, prevent, and prosecute these often-overlooked human rights violations.
This webinar is designed for judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and other legal professionals, as well as civil society actors, human rights activists, journalists, and students. The translation is available in English and Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/Serbian. Prior registration is not required.

Key discussion topics will include the difficulty in prosecuting these cases, including obstetric, medical, and sexual violence cases, focusing on barriers victims face in accessing justice, and the crucial role of the judiciary in ensuring accountability. The discussion will centre around real-life cases in Western Balkans, and particularly seeking to examine the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights and standards established by the European Convention on Human Rights. The webinar will also touch on the human dimension, highlighting the psychological and emotional toll on survivors, as a result of various forms of violence during obstetric/gynaecological medical care.
